Wood Flooring Frequently Asked Questions

We use a vacuum system that hooks up to all of our equipment to reduce the amount of dust in the air significantly. There is some dust that is made, but it is very minimal.

It depends on the size of the floor. A 1,000 sq. ft. home may take 1-1.5 days of sanding plus approximately 2 days for the finishing process.

It’s not recommended to wash your floors for the first couple weeks after having them finished while the finish is curing. But when ready, I always recommend using a ¼ vinegar ¾ water solution making sure not to soak the floor and immediately wiping any excess water with a dry rag.

The moisture level is very important. Humidity needs to stay between 35-50% all year long to avoid cupping or shrinking of the hardwood.

You should be very careful the first week. You can walk on the floor after 24 hours with bare socks but avoid shoes. Furniture can be put in place after at least 3 days being very careful not to drag or slide anything across the floor.

Homeowners are always welcome to stay in their homes but should be aware that the stains and finishes that are used do have an odor which may make staying in the house uncomfortable.  Plus, once the sanding and finishing process has begun you cannot walk on the floors until the job is completely finished.

We usually recommend sanding and refinishing the entire area to properly color match to any existing hardwood. Because of the seasonal aging of hardwood and finish, it can be very hard to match perfectly.
